A two-door Empire-style bookcase/display cabinet in solid and veneered mahogany.
The upper section consists of two glazed doors opening onto four interior shelves; the lower section features panels of flamed mahogany. The gilt-bronze ornamentation is characteristic of the Empire style: a central pediment with facing winged griffins, corner palmettes, engaged columns with bronze rings and capitals, laurel wreaths and floral sheaves on the lower doors, and a scrolling frieze on the plinth. The chased bronze keyhole escutcheons in the shape of palm leaves are a finely crafted detail. The interior back panel is made of secondary boards, in accordance with workshop practices of the period. The overall condition shows patinated wear consistent with the age of the piece: scratches in the varnish, chips, and visible signs of use; cleaning and refinishing of the varnish are recommended.
