Here's the thing about Regency England — they were absolutely feral about Japanese Imari porcelain. Couldn't get enough of it. So when Japan closed its ports and cut off supply, English potteries said "fine, we'll do it ourselves" — and Hicks, Meigh & Johnson did it better than almost anyone.
This platter is proof. Cobalt blue, iron-red florals, gilt detailing, a vase of flowers behind a garden railing in the centre panel — it's dramatic, and it's rich. Made sometime between 1820 and 1835, stamped with the blue crown Real Stone China mark on the base and hand-painted pattern number 182 in red.
Nearly 200 years old. Still stunning!
10" x 7¾" · Ironstone · Hicks Meigh & Johnson · c.1820–1835
Its for the collector. The person who thinks their dining room needs one more thing — and they're right.
