A premier example of Mid-Century Modern California design, this "jumbo" format tray by Couroc of Monterey is a masterclass in mixed-media inlay. Couroc was famous for its proprietary, nearly indestructible satin-black phenolic resin—a material impervious to alcohol, boiling water, and heat—making it the gold standard for vintage barware and serving accessories.
This tray features one of Couroc's most sought-after wildlife motifs: the Wood Duck. The bird is meticulously hand-assembled by master craftsmen using:
Genuine Wood Veneers: Providing the rich, organic texture for the body.
Solid Brass Wire: Hand-formed to create the elegant water ripple.
Metallic Highlights: Vibrant crimson, forest green, and gold pigments that remain bright and crisp.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The inlay is perfectly intact with no lifting. The resin maintains its iconic satin luster with only the most minimal signs of use. Reverse: Retains the original gold foil manufacturer’s label, a rare find that authenticates the piece for serious collectors. Minor, superficial surface scratches are present on the underside (see photos) consistent with age and gentle handling.
Dimensions: 18" L x 12.5" W x 7/8" D (The largest standard format produced).
