With our absolute highest compliments Bay Colony Antiques takes the utmost pleasure in offering this exquisite antique butter churn. This remarkable example consists of four primary components: an iron banded oaken barrel, a removable wooden top in a red wash paint surface fitted with a galvanized iron locking mechanism, a solid tiger maple trestle base, and a bentwood hooped handle.
The frontward facing center of the barrel is stenciled as follows "The Favorite" No 2 Manuf'd by J. McDermaid Rockford, ILL' which denotes the model, maker, and location from which this butter churn was first produced. The tiger maple base is also stenciled "No 2" to indicate that the original base and barrel have remained together throughout the past century.
This antique butter churn stands apart from nearly all other examples that have been offered for sale in well advertised forums in recent years on largely two accounts. Primarily the tiger maple base elevates this churn above nearly any comparable models as they seldom remain in good condition or with the original barrel. Second, and most importantly, is the phenomenal condition of the entire butter churn. Most churns in this style, which are generally valued around several hundred dollars, are in poor or heavily distressed condition. This example is perfect for display and has remained in showroom quality condition.
Anyone staging a restaurant, film production set, or decorating a primitive farmhouse kitchen interior would likely find this butter churn to be the perfect option for what they require. Overall the butter churn measures 40 1/2" tall when the barrel is placed in the frame. The frame measures 23" wide x 22" deep at the trestle base and stands 24 1/2" tall. The oaken barrel measures 16" diameter x 17 3/4" tall and 20 1/2" tall at the top of the iron locking mechanism. The hooped handle measures 24 1/2" wide x 36" tall.
