On offer is a nocturne, as such works are called, of a 19th-century serene rural setting featuring traditional thatched-roof houses that would be ordinary by daylight.
These cottages are central to the composition. Their dark roofs and glowing walls creating a sense of quiet rustic life. The tall, slim trees (likely poplars or cypresses) provide strong vertical lines that break up the horizontal landscape and reach into the dark expanse of the sky.
A large haystack is visible on the left, a common feature in rural farm scenes that adds texture and anchors the foreground. The style of this work is Polish School.
