Henri Tebbitt was born in Paris to British parents. He was self-taught and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London before moving to Australia in 1889. His work follows a traditional realist style, focusing on capturing the unique light and vegetation of the Australian bush. While he struggled to adapt to the harsh Australian light at first, his "lofty gum trees set in mountain scenery" became highly sought after by the public.
