On the stone next to the jug is the location 'Rome' the date, and the monogram 'JG' The depiction of a figure in Italian folk costume was very popular in 19th-century Europe, linked to the phenomenon of the Grand Tour, and therefore served as a 'postcard' souvenir of the journey. Here, a girl is depicted in the traditional Ciociaria costume, richly embroidered and lace-covered. She poses with a copper amphora beside her, and a stone arch behind her, clearly highlighting the Roman remains in the area. The painting has been restored and relined in the past. It is presented in a mid-20th-century chronology. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
