This French commode dates from the early 19th century (circa 1800–1830) and is crafted from solid walnut with walnut veneer.
The piece reflects the transition between the Empire and Restauration periods, visible in its balanced proportions, restrained decorative elements, and column-form front supports. The design combines architectural clarity with a more refined and lighter appearance compared to earlier Empire furniture.
The commode is fitted with four drawers, constructed using traditional joinery techniques. The drawer fronts display a warm and varied walnut grain, while the hardware contributes to the overall understated character of the piece.
The structure is solid and stable. The back is made from secondary wood, as is typical for furniture of this period.
The surface shows signs of age and use, including small marks, wear, and patina consistent with its age and history. These elements contribute to the authenticity of the piece.
