Originally designed by … Read more Introducing the Pierre Jeanneret 056 Capitol complex dining set, a timeless design that exudes elegance and sophistication. Originally designed by Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s for the Legislative Assembly building in Chandigarh, this iconic set has been relaunched by Cassina in 2019. Crafted in Italy with the finest materials, this set includes a dining table, 2 chairs, and 2 armchairs. Jeanneret was a key figure in the realization of Chandigarh and his close contact with the local territory led him to combine essential forms with simple materials, creating a meeting point between modern European ideals and traditional Indian spirit. The Capitol Complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016, sparking renewed interest in this architectural work of art and the furniture used in it. Though overshadowed by his cousin Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret was a visionary of modernist architecture and design. Together, the pair pioneered a new aesthetic vocabulary that placed function and order over embellishment, with Jeanneret imbuing the strict geometry of modernism with energetic diagonals and lighter materials like cane and wood. Cassina is a company that has manufactured iconic pieces of contemporary design from the 1950s to the present day, ideated by some of the most important international designers.
