This is a rare, vintage Bremer & Schmidt (BES) coffee set from the 1960s.
Mid-century modern style featuring a distinctive colorful geometric pattern with gold trim.
This striking mid-century modern coffee set was produced by the German porcelain factory Bremer & Schmidt (often abbreviated as BES) in Eisenberg, Germany.
The set is characterized by its bold, asymmetric Art Deco-inspired geometric pattern featuring a black base with vibrant color blocks in yellow, pink, and blue, all accentuated with fine gold trim.
Avant-garde geometric shapes with heavy gold gilding and a gloss black finish.
Composition: Set of six porcelain demitasse cups and matching saucers.
Rarity: The factory closed in 1976, making this a sought-after collectible set.
This porcelain mark belongs to the Bremer & Schmidt porcelain factory, which was located in Eisenberg, East Germany (GDR).
The specific mark shown in your image, featuring a golden crown over crossed swords with the letters B, E, S, and the Cyrillic text "Фарфор из ГДР" (Porcelain from GDR), was used between 1968 and 1972.
Manufacturer: Bremer & Schmidt
(also known by the abbreviation BSE or BES).
Origin: Eisenberg, East Germany (GDR).
Inscription: The Cyrillic text "Фарфор из ГДР" translates to "Porcelain from the GDR," indicating these pieces were often produced for export to the Soviet Union.
Factory History
Established: 1896 as a small venture that eventually grew to employ 150 workers by WWI.
Post-WWII: The factory survived both world wars. In 1958, it was placed under state supervision by the East German government and was fully nationalized in 1973.
After being integrated into a larger state combine (V.E.B. Spezialkombinat Porzellan Eisenberg), the factory was ultimately closed in 1976.
