The box measures approx. 4 3/8 inches long, 3 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall. Russia, near Moscow, mid 20th Century. Romanticism, hand painted lacquered oval box. After Konstantin Makovsky (1839-1915), "Children Running from Thunderstorm". Absolutely adorable hand painted scene of an older sister bravely giving her younger terrified sibling a piggyback-ride across a makeshift footbridge to escape the approaching thunderstorm. Signed indistinctly at bottom edge of lid. Ruddy-red lacquered interior. Typed description slip inside reads, "Fedoskino Russian Oval Lacquer Box "Children Running From a Storm"". Excellent vintage condition. Shows minor wear commensurate with age. See photos. Displays precious! See less
