The altar crucifix is … Read more Antique Altar Crucifix of Jesus Christ, Holy Trinity, Gospels & Four Living Creatures for your consideration. The altar crucifix is of good size, measuring approx. 16 inches tall, 6 1/2 inches wide and 4 3/4 inches deep. French, late 19th to early 20th Century. Cartouche Rococo stylized motif design throughout. Gilt and silvered metal cross with crucified Jesus Christ. "INRI" inscribed on scroll overhead with face of God the Father behind the head of Christ. Dove, representing the Holy Spirit, with outstretched wings at top. Sacred burning heart towards the foot of the cross. Gospel Saints of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John at base, represented as the Four Living Creatures (Human, Lion, Ox or Bull, and an Eagle) mentioned in the books, Ezekiel and Revelation. Very good antique condition. Shows wear commensurate with age and use. Missing two figures, each would have flanked either side of the bottom of the cross. Likely would have been Mary and John. (See photos 14 & 15). Not noticeable except under close examination. See photos. Displays wonderful! See less
