Meiji Kutani-ware Satsuma Lidded Vase (1 of 2 available) for your consideration. The jar is large, measuring approx. 16 inches tall and approx. 7 inches in diameter. Japanese, Kutani, 19th Century. Porcelain; lidded vase, urn, ginger jar. Finely executed hand painted details throughout. Iron-red ground with gold gilt highlights covering the entirety of the piece. Includes Greek-key and floral-patterned borders. Modeled buddha figural finial holding turtle atop lid. Twenty-four lovely red-headed cranes in flight adorning the lid as well. The body of the vase depicts two scholars and a woman Samari with sword resting over her shoulder in garden setting. Four more cranes in flight detailed within the scene as well. The other side of the vase is decorated with a soaring phoenix flying amongst a robust floral bouquet of Chrysanthemums and Orchids. The two scenes are divided on either side with intricate floral motifs paneled within gold gilt wave and karakusa arabesque-stylized patterns over continuation of the iron-red ground. Hand painted mark on base, "ä¹è°·é " (Kutani zo). Very good antique condition. Shows minor wear commensurate with age. Possible professional restorations. Shallow rim fleck (not noticeable with lid in place). Minor enamel and gold gilt loss. Condition issues not noticeable except under very close examination. See photos. Displays exquisite!
