A set of four model 695 armchairs designed by Josef Frank in 1935 for Svenskt Tenn.
These sit somewhere between a dining chair and a lounge chair. The proportions are a bit more generous than standard dining seating, which makes them more comfortable to use for longer periods, whether at a table or as standalone chairs.
The frames are in mahogany, with a warm tone that comes through nicely against the upholstery. They’re covered in a light gray wool-blend fabric with a slightly textured, almost bouclé feel, which gives them more depth than a standard flat textile. The piping detail adds a subtle outline and keeps the shape defined.
They’re well sized without being bulky. Height is about 33.1 inches, width around 24 inches, and depth approximately 23.6 inches. Seat height is about 18.5 inches, with a seat depth of around 19.7 inches, and armrest height roughly 26.4 inches, so they sit comfortably at most tables.
The seat construction uses traditional materials with supportive padding, so they feel solid and well built rather than overly soft.
What we like about them is the upholstery. That lighter, textured fabric gives them a softer look and makes them stand out a bit from more standard versions.
As with all vintage pieces, signs of use are part of the story. Colors can look slightly different depending on the light. If you’d like more details, just let me know.
