Overview
A stunning original oil painting on board by listed American artist Irving K. Manoir (1891–1982). Dated 1920, this early-career work showcases Manoir’s mastery of California Impressionism and light. The composition features slender, ethereal trees rendered with thick, impasto brushwork against a soft, luminous sky. The palette of muted blues, sage greens, and warm ochres creates a serene, timeless atmosphere.
The Frame
The painting is beautifully presented in its original 20" x 16" ornate gilt wood frame. The frame's intricate floral corner carvings and classic beaded inner border add a layer of historical elegance that perfectly anchors the Impressionist style of the work.
Styling & Placement
This piece is a "jewel" for a sophisticated interior. Its 20x16 inch scale is ideal for:
The Elegant Living Room: As shown in the visualization, it serves as a refined focal point above a mantel or between formal architectural moldings.
A Curated Gallery Wall: The rich texture of the oil and the substantial gold frame make it an excellent anchor piece for a collection of vintage and modern art.
Intimate Spaces: Perfect for adding a touch of museum-quality history to a library, study, or master suite.

Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Chicago, Manoir was a prominent figure in the city's art scene for much of his life. He also sought out European influences, returning in 1932 from a five-year tour of major art centers in Europe to refine his style. Later in his career, he even studied with the legendary modernist Hans Hofmann.
Artistic Style and Subject Matter
Manoir was a versatile painter, working across landscapes, cityscapes, marine scenes, and portraits. His technique is characterized by:
Vivid Color and Light: A hallmark of his style, especially in his landscapes, is the capture of atmospheric light, often associated with the California Plein Air movement he later joined.
Bold Brushwork: His works often feature expressive, confident brush strokes that give the paintings a rich, textural quality.
Global Inspiration: His travels informed a wide range of subjects, from the High Sierras of California to scenes in Paris and beyond.
Professional Accomplishments and Legacy
Manoir was not only a prolific artist but also a dedicated educator, earning a strong reputation as an art teacher in both Illinois and California.
