The original brass John Stuart medallion is present on the underside. The enamel is an eye-shaped medallion of vitreous enamel in blue, white, gold, and aqua — an abstract organic motif with the gestural quality of studio craft — inlaid with precision into the walnut top surface. It is a detail that makes this table a decorative object as much as a functional one.

John Stuart Inc. of Grand Rapids and New York was one of the most respected American furniture companies of the mid-century period, known for high design standards, quality materials, and collaborations with significant designers including Paul Frankl, Peter Hvidt, Bert England, and Milo Baughman.
