A graphic Mid-Century Modern studio-pottery vase by Swedish ceramicist Erik Tomas Anagrius (b. 1939), produced at his own ceramics workshop circa 1960s. The substantial hand-thrown stoneware body — solid and weighty at over one kilogram — rises from a slim base to a softly rolled flared collar, finished in a layered glaze of warm earth-brown over a matte ochre-and-olive ground. The face is dominated by a large carved relief medallion: a sgraffito sun-and-wheel motif of radiating wedges, rings of small dots, and outer rays, finished with a subtle moss-green inlay glaze that catches the light against the matte body.
The base is impressed and signed: "Konsthantverkaren handdrejad 227" with Anagrius's flowing signature in script — the hallmark of his independent studio production, distinct from his earlier factory work at Alingsås Keramik (1961–1963). Anagrius trained at Konstfack (1956–1961) and apprenticed at Rörstrand and Gustavsberg before founding his own atelier in Alingsås in 1963, later relocating to Kvidinge in northwest Skåne in 1967. His ceramics are held in the collection of the Swedish National Museum.
A bold, sculptural piece of Scandinavian studio pottery — equally at home on a console, mantel, bookshelf, or as a sculptural focal point in a Mid-Century interior.
