Almost life size! The work is signed by Manuel and his two sons Angélico (born 1954) and Isaías (born 1961) who have continued in their father's footsteps. His work has been widely copied. As a result, most offered for sale today are unsigned works that are attributed. Genuine signed carvings are scarce. The armadillo is the state bird of Texas.

Jimenez was a Mexican carver, sculptor and painter credited as the originator of the Oaxaca’s version of “alebrijes,” animal creatures carved in wood and painted in strong contrasting colors often with elaborate designs. His works can be found in public and private collections worldwide. He was named a “grand master” of Mexican folk art by the Fomento Cultural Banamex.[ See less
