A gorgeous hand-painted Japanese porcelain covered ginger jar presenting all the hallmarks of fine Meiji-era Imari export ware. Deep cobalt blue, vibrant iron-red and warm gilt gold on bright white porcelain — the classic Arita tricolor palette that's had Western collectors hooked since the 1600s.
Decoration is confident and fluid throughout — sweeping cherry blossom and plum blossom panels, gilt Karakusa scrollwork, Kiku chrysanthemum roundels and a beautiful double-gourd finial gilded at the tip. The brushwork and tonal variation in the cobalt are exactly what you want to see on a quality hand-painted piece.
**12 inches tall with lid, 9 inches without. Original matching lid. No chips, cracks or repairs anywhere — presents beautifully from every angle.**
Unmarked on base, consistent with many period Arita export wares. Sold as found, buyer to satisfy themselves as to age and origin.
