artist m.i.c.a. – manifattura italiana ceramiche artistiche. M.i.c.a. Was a small artisanal manufacturer of artistic ceramics active in sesto fiorentino (florence) during the interwar years and the immediate postwar period. It is believed to have been founded in 1928 by brothers giulio and giannino ciampi together with their sister gianina. Many pieces feature a characteristic use of gold applied during a third firing, a technique that required great skill. The production included majolica, glazed earthenware, vases, tableware sets, decorative figures, and objects with floral or stylized decorations, often in the art deco style or influenced by the tastes of the period. The pieces are usually marked m.i.c.a., mica italy. The manufacturer appears to have ceased operations around the late 1950s.
