The rectangular top is edged with … Read more A refined Italian Neoclassical side table in walnut, decorated throughout with geometric fruitwood inlay. The rectangular top is edged with a continuous chevron or herringbone inlay border in alternating light and dark fruitwoods, a motif that continues down all four legs and frames the drawer fronts.
The two bowed drawer fronts are each centered on a panel of burr walnut, framed within the inlaid border and fitted with original circular brass ring pulls of rosette form. The simple apron is supported on four slender sabre legs of graceful outward sweep, a form closely associated with the Directoire and early Empire periods in both French and Italian cabinetmaking.
The case holds two drawers for storage which are both lined in the original Italian papers. This table would serve equally well as a bedside table, lamp table, or occasional piece in a variety of interiors. See less
