As … Read more A buffet with more than two doors, such as this three-door one, is known as an enfilade in France. As is the case with the smaller buffet, an enfilade is waist-high, designed for serving food or displaying décor. Hand-carved circa 1850, our enfilade has been bleached more recently, allowing the Regence-style carvings to gain more prominence alongside some fabulous graining to the golden beige wood with brown accents.

The highly rectilinear form of the enfilade is softened by subtle contour change, such as the angled pilasters and barbs to the slightly overhanging top that align with the mullions. Similar carvings adorn the pilasters and the mullions, with elongated oval moldings that surround a margent beneath a floral vase. Thick molding surrounds each of the rectangular doors, enveloping the shapely Regence leaves that can be seen in the corners of each door panel (two of the doors have dotted quadrillage in the excised areas, while the third has Rococo leaves). Both the right and the center compartments contain a hidden belt drawer above a contiguous single shelf, while the left is open, allowing for storage of taller items such as ewers, vases, and vertical centerpieces. An alternative to using our Regence three-door enfilade in the kitchen or dining room could be to use it as a media console under a large TV in a bedroom or living room, or as a statement piece to an entryway.
