This bronze sculpture of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius is from Ancient Rome and was made after the Antique Equestrian monument meant in Rome. It is a detailed replica of the original sculpture which was made in 180 A.D.
Marcus Aurelius (reigned 161–180 AD) was a Roman emperor best known as the "philosopher-king". He was the last of the "Five Good Emperors" whose reigns are often considered the Golden Age of Rome.
Despite his peaceful nature, most of his reign was spent defending the empire's borders against Germanic tribes and the Parthian Empire. He also led Rome through the devastating Antonine Plague.
The horse is shown in motion with one foreleg raised, which was a significant engineering feat for a heavy bronze casting.
He is depicted in civilian robes rather than military armor, extending his hand in a gesture of clemency, symbolizing his role as a bringer of peace rather than just a conqueror.
