This Murano glass table lamp by Barovier & Toso, designed by Ercole Barovier and produced in Italy in the 1960s, exemplifies the refined use of the cordonato d’oro technique within a sculptural mid-century form. The base is hand-blown in translucent turquoise glass, its surface articulated with vertical, undulating ridges that lend both rhythm and structure to the form. Suspended within the glass, fine particles of gold leaf are dispersed in elongated patterns, creating a luminous texture that shifts subtly with changing light. This variation of the cordonato d’oro technique produces a rich interplay between colour and metallic inclusion, with the gold appearing to float within the body of the glass. The silhouette follows a classical baluster form, with softly swelling shoulders tapering into a narrower waist, punctuated by a small central glass ring. Below, the form opens into a splayed, conical pedestal base, providing visual balance and stability. When illuminated, the glass body emits a warm glow, intensifying the turquoise tone and bringing the gold inclusions into sharper relief. This piece reflects the technical innovation and aesthetic clarity associated with Barovier & Toso during the mid-20th century, under the direction of Ercole Barovier. Condition is good, with noted damage. There are two edge chips to the glass at the junction between the upper body and the central ring. The lamp is fully working, and all other elements remain in good condition. Please refer to images for further detail. Please note: The lampshade isn't included.
