An exceptional and highly decorative pair of 19th-century dutch planters, masterfully crafted in hand-carved european oak and adorned with an extraordinary collection of original delft tiles dating from 1650–1780. Each planter retains its original metal insert and displays a beautifully aged, rich patina that only centuries of time can achieve.
each piece is decorated with 12 antique delft tiles (24 in total), forming a remarkable ensemble of early dutch ceramic artistry. The tiles depict an engaging variety of subjects, including tulips, pastoral life, maritime scenes, and biblical narratives. Eeach executed with distinctive character and historic charm.
a few highlights, following the order of the listing images:
starting at listing picture 3:
tile 1: tulip in square, dated circa 1650. There are four of these tiles in total, one at each end of the planters.
tile 2: a farm scene with a magenta-purple background. This exact tile is also displayed in the royal dutch palace “het loo,” in mary’s famous kitchen (museum display). Attributed to the delftsevaart factory in rotterdam, circa 1685–1690.
tile 3: biblical tile depicting jonah and the whale, dated circa 1770.
tile 4: biblical scene showing jesus with martha and mary, dated circa 1760.
tile 5: a dutch pastoral scene featuring a shepherd with sheep, dated circa 1660.
tile 6: biblical scene depicting david and goliath, dated circa 1780.
there are many more tiles, ranging from maritime scenes with boats to charming village depictions, and a farmer and his dog.
condition is consistent with age and authenticity, showing minor wear and one cracked tile. This has been intentionally left untouched to preserve the integrity and historical continuity of the pieces. But you can replace it with a ''new'''antique delft tile from the period of 1650-1780.
a one of kind pair that will leave a lasting impression in any room and easily result in many coniversations with guests. As each tile starts its own story.
