Printed in Paris, c. 1969. Offered framed under glass in original polished chrome.

‘Maurice Estève was a French painter known for his lyrical experiments with colorful interwoven forms. Inspired by the art of Paolo Uccello, Nicolas Poussin, and Paul Cézanne, Estève merged his love of art history with abstraction. “I never use a sketch, painting directly on the canvas, without a preparatory drawing,” he once said. “Each work is a series of transformations.” —Artnet

Mourlot Studios was a commercial print shop founded in 1852 by the Mourlot family and located in Paris, France. It was also known as Imprimerie Mourlot, Mourlot Freres and Atelier Mourlot. Francois Mourlot started off producing wallpaper. Later, his son Jules Mourlot would expand the business to handle the production of chocolate labels for companies such as Chocolat Poulain, as well as ledgers, maps and stationary. Starting in the 1920s, Jules’ son, Fernand Mourlot, converted one of the locations into a studio dedicated to printing fine art lithography. See less
