The narrow, high back and the evenly structured turned sections lend the piece a calm, vertical effect with clearly legible craftsmanship. Historical context: Such individual chairs were part of bourgeois domestic culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and were frequently used as part of small seating groups, at writing or side tables, or in bedrooms and dressing rooms. The particularly low seat also made it suitable for dressing and caring for children at that time. Features: The backrest is openly structured with turned spindles and crossbars, emphasizing its verticality. The seat is upholstered with a textile covering in a light toile de Jouy-like pattern. Design: Formally, the chair stands between late historicist and rural-bourgeois furniture styles. The turned front legs, the high backrest with its subtle gradations, and the overall slender proportions are particularly striking. The light finish reduces the chair's historical weight and makes its construction particularly easy to read. Function: Originally, this chair served as a single seat in living rooms or bedrooms, often at small tables or dressing tables. Today, it is suitable as a standalone piece, as an occasional chair in bedrooms or dressing rooms, or as a complementary seat in subtly designed interiors. Dimensions in cm: Height 98, Seat height 38, Width 47, Depth 43. Material and condition: Wood, light finish; seat with textile upholstery. Good used condition with age-appropriate signs of wear. The upholstery is well-maintained and complements the piece. Stable and well-kept. See less
