The design is modernist at heart: geometric, composed, and beautifully disciplined. Its strong panelled sides, straight armrests, and grounded proportions give the chair a distinctly architectural presence, almost as if it were built from a sequence of calm, carefully measured planes. At the same time, the design avoids becoming severe. In the rounded front rail and the gentle curve of the back, a softer and more organic note appears, subtly loosening the structure and giving the piece a more human rhythm.
It has the clarity and order of Dutch modernist design, yet with a trace of the more expressive sensibility associated with the Amsterdam School. The result is a chair with real presence: sturdy, elegant, and unusual.
