This tapestry, featuring a historical world map in the style of Gerardus Mercator (16th century), was produced in the 1960s as a multicolored textile print on textured fabric and is believed to have been made in Germany.
The high-quality tapestry depicts constellations and geographical names such as "Flandrica" and "Canaria" in the background. The central heraldic field also includes Latin text indicating astronomical or geographical accuracy.
The edges are finished with braided binding, and some of the motifs are accentuated by decorative stitching.
