Produced during the period of Taylor’s rise to national prominence following the Mexican–American War and his 1848 presidential campaign, flasks of this type served as patriotic commemoratives—linking Washington’s legacy with a contemporary military leader.
The flask is blown in a two-piece mold with vertical seams and well-defined portrait medallions. The glass has a soft aqua tone with natural bubbles and subtle irregularities that reflect its hand-blown origin.
The base retains a rough open pontil scar, a strong indicator of mid-19th century manufacture.
A solid, straightforward example of an American historical flask from the Taylor period — with good presence and honest surface.
