A truly monumental example of mid-century Italian glassmaking. This heavy-scale "Macchie" (spotted) vase weighs a staggering 10 pounds, showcasing the incredible density and quality of 1950s/60s Murano production.
A good reference book for this vase is:
1. AVEM: Arte Vetraria Muranese. Artistic Production 1932-1972" by Marc Heiremans.
2. "Toso" Connection: "Fratelli Toso Murano: 1902-1980" by Marc Heiremans & Caterina Toso
This piece features an intricate internal "abstract" core of bold primary yellow, vibrant red, and cobalt blue canes, all submerged (Sommerso) within a thick, crystal-clear leaded glass casing. The visual effect is stunning, creating a "vase within a vase" depth that shifts beautifully with the light.
Hand-blown "A Canne" and "Macchie" interior with heavy Sommerso casing.
Substantial presence at 10 lbs; a true "statement" or "anchor" piece for any MCM collection.
Features a professional, factory-polished flat base, a hallmark of high-end Murano houses such as A.V.E.M. (Arte Vetraria Muranese) or Fratelli Toso.
