Armchair with chromed tubular steel frame and black upholstered seat and back. Cantilever design. Scandinavian production, 1930s.
A modernist Scandinavian chair dating back to the 1930s, an expression of European research into the cantilever chair typology developed within the Bauhaus movement. The chromed tubular steel frame develops in a continuous sled line, creating a balance between visual lightness and technical innovation. The black upholstery of the seat and backrest introduces a minimalist contrast, while the integrated armrests emphasize the formal rigor typical of the period. An example of the diffusion of the modernist language in Northern Europe, in dialogue with the experiences of Mart Stam and Mies van der Rohe.
