Original drawing by an old master - Pen and brown ink with wash. Exceptional mannerist drawing from the end of the 16th century marked to one of the most important painters of the Cremonese school: Giovanni Battista Trotti known as Malosso.
The work depicts a deeply expressive bearded elderly saint or prophet in a kneeling pose, rendered with characteristic mannerist anatomy, dynamic linework and subtle ink washes that create rich depth and volume. It reflects the influence of Bernardino Campi and the Northern Italian Mannerism that Malosso masterfully developed in Cremona and Parma. Executed on original handmade vintage paper with visible antique texture and natural aging, signed "G. B. Trotti".
Technique: pen and watercolor brown ink. Artist: Giovanni Battista Trotti, il Malosso (Cremona 1555 – Parma 1619)
Provenance:
Formerly in a European private collection, acquired on the Vienna antiques market (Austria). The object has been in Europe for several decades.
