PAIR 19th Century George Edwards Copper Plate Bird Etchings Hand Colored from "A Natural History of Uncommon Birds and of some other "Rare and Un-described Animals and Gleanings of Natural History" originally published in 1764 and 1806. Printed in German.
"The Brazilian Saw-billed Roller" a Brazilian Motmot perched on a branch, featuring detailed plumage and a saw-toothed beak. Plate 327. "Black & Blue Titmouse" perched on a flowering branch eyeing an insect. Plate 49.
George Edwards (1694-1773) known as the father of British ornithology and regarded as Britain's foremost naturalist. All the 362 hand-colored etchings were drawn by Edwards.
Both mounted in handsome heavy antique walnut frames.
