Here is a beautiful Edwardian English armoire cabinet, dating to around 1904, with attribution to Harris Lebus, as supported by the original patent plaque and “RD No” (Registered Design) stamp found on the piece.
Crafted in wood with a warm honey-toned finish, the cabinet features a tall beveled mirror set within a beautifully carved arched surround. The detailing reflects a transition from late Aesthetic Movement design into early Arts & Crafts influence, with carved detailing that suggests draped ribbon or fabric swags accented by fruit clusters, reflecting late Aesthetic Movement design with subtle Art Nouveau influence. The contrast between the lighter wood and deeper carved accents highlights the craftsmanship nicely.
Inside, the cabinet offers three wooden shelves with adjustable supports, along with brass hooks at the top for hanging garments, making it versatile for use as a wardrobe, linen cabinet, or general storage piece. A few of the shelf brackets are missing, so the cabinet is currently configured with two shelves, but the flexibility remains for adjustment. A full-width lower drawer provides additional concealed storage and retains its original-style brass hardware.
The cabinet is thoughtfully constructed in multiple sections—including a separate base with drawer, main body, and removable crown—allowing for easier transport and installation, a feature commonly found in well-made early 20th century English furniture. Stamped “RD No” for Registered Design and bearing a 1904 patent plaque, the piece reflects both protected decorative design and period construction methods, aligning with known Harris Lebus production of the era.
It’s one of those pieces that really works in a space—functional, well-scaled, and detailed without feeling overly ornate.

Structurally sound and presents well. The cabinet shows expected signs of age, including surface wear and minor marks consistent with use. The backing has been replaced, and the door hardware appears to have been changed at some point- see 9th photo. The crown moulding shows a few imperfections, including a repair on the left-hand side. There is also a small loss to the carved detail on the front, right side above the mirror (see 6th photo). The mirror is in very nice condition with only light age-appropriate wear. The cabinet is constructed in multiple sections, and we recommend securing the pieces together and/or anchoring to the wall for added stability. Overall displays beautifully. less
