This is not a simple storage piece—it is effectively a facade of a building translated into furniture.
The front is dominated by two deeply carved panel doors featuring stylized figural and foliate motifs framed within intricate marquetry borders. Above, winged cherub masks anchor the composition—an unmistakable reference to Northern European Renaissance ornament. Flanking and dividing the case are turned and carved columns, giving the cabinet a strong vertical rhythm and architectural presence.
The surface shows a complex interplay of parquetry and marquetry work, combining contrasting woods to create depth and movement across the façade. The original hand-forged iron escutcheons and strap hinges remain intact, adding authenticity and a layer of gothic influence typical of German decorative arts of the period.
