Hand-carved wood sculpture of a stylized bird, mounted on its original turned wood base. This is a distinctive one-of-a-kind object, well suited to MCM, organic modern, boho, or eclectic interiors. At 15" high, it is larger than expected and looks great in a curated, mixed-media collection with ceramic and textile art.
The piece features incised and painted geometric decoration in earth tones, rich with symbolism, reflecting the mid-century modern fascination with organic form and folk-inspired design. Although unsigned, the sculpture exhibits strong studio craftsmanship consistent with decorative works produced for architect-designed interiors in the postwar period. The base and sculptural scale indicate it was conceived as an art object rather than a utilitarian or ethnographic carving.
