Biography
Léon Louis Dardenne was a Belgian painter, illustrator, and graphic artist, born in 1865 and died in 1912. He worked across landscapes, genre scenes, portraits, and design, and is also noted as a draughtsman, engraver, and poster artist. In addition to his studio practice, he was recruited for the scientific mission to Katanga from 1898 to 1900, where he produced visual documentation of the expedition. His work today is appreciated for its range and for the sensitivity with which he approached both landscape and observed life.
