A striking and highly decorative large Fajalauza lebrillo, originating from the historic ceramic tradition of Granada, in southern Spain.
This impressive bowl embodies the essence of Andalusian pottery, featuring a bold hand-painted green decoration applied over a pale, softly aged ground. The central motif, composed of stylized vegetal forms, is surrounded by an expressive rhythmic border, executed in fluid brushwork typical of traditional workshop production.
The piece reveals clear evidence of manual craftsmanship - from the slightly irregular shaping of the body to the spontaneous, gestural quality of the painted decoration. The green pigment, likely derived from copper oxide, shows natural tonal variations that enhance the visual depth and authenticity of the surface.
Particularly notable is the presence of traditional metal staple repairs, historically used to extend the life of valuable domestic ceramics. These repairs, visible on the reverse, contribute to the object’s character and narrative, reflecting historical use and preservation practices.
In addition, the bowl has undergone a later professional restoration, including consolidation of cracks and partial reconstruction of the central decoration. The surface has been stabilized, resulting in a visually cohesive and display-ready piece.
Today, the lebrillo stands as a powerful decorative object - equally suitable for interior display, wall mounting, or as part of a curated ceramic collection.
