a delft blue plate with a seascape based on the painting by willem van de velde (ii) the cannon shot, ca. 1680. A dutch warship fires a cannon shot. The ship lies still on the smooth water, the sails hang completely slack. Two sloops bob on either side, in the distance, another dutch ship can be seen with furled sails. Plateelbakkerij zenith in gouda (1749-1984) was a prominent producer of ceramics, which became known from around 1935 for its delft blue and polychrome earthenware.
zenith started as a pipe factory (p.j. V.d. Want az.) and switched to decorative and utilitarian earthenware around 1915. Zenith delft blue, produced by plateelbakkerij zenith in gouda, largely dates from the period 1935 to 1984.
