Although similar pieces are often adorned with hand-painted motifs such as koi fish, floral patterns, and Gold Imari styles this piece features a unique red background with highly stylized gold motifs and scroll work imitative of Japanese Imari work. These pots are designed for both decoration and functional use as planters and are crafted from high-temperature fired, vitreous porcelain, which makes them heavy, durable, and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
The stunning use of gilded gold motifs and scrollwork on a blood red background makes this a highly unusual, one of a kind piece. It features detailed hand-painted designs, including internal paintings of swimming koi fish. It appears almost art deco in nature with stylized fan patterns and geometric designs.
