This painting is widely regarded … Read more Vintage oil painting on burlap after Claude Monet's 1872 painting, Impression, Sunrise (Impression, soleil levant).  This painting is widely regarded as the masterpiece that gave the Impressionist movement its name. It depicts the port of Le Havre, France, at dawn, capturing the effects of light and fog on the water.  Monet used loose, quick brushstrokes to capture a fleeting sensation rather than detailed realism.  The artwork was first exhibited in Paris in 1874 and is currently housed in the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris France.
