Here is a striking large-scale contemporary round painting by Surabhi Gaikwad Uzgare, signed and dated 2020. Known for her richly layered compositions and bold use of color, Gaikwad’s work often explores the relationship between nature, human presence, and modern life—something beautifully captured in this piece.
The composition features an abundant arrangement of fruits, vegetables, and organic forms set against a vibrant lavender ground, creating a dense, almost tapestry-like still life. At the center, two metallic figural hands—one rendered in gold leaf and the other in silver—reach toward one another, creating a focal point that feels both symbolic and visually dynamic. The gesture subtly recalls the iconic imagery of The Creation of Adam, reinterpreted here through a contemporary lens and set within a richly organic environment. This interplay between natural forms and metallic, human elements is characteristic of the artist’s evolving visual language, bringing together themes of growth, connection, and modern identity. The overall composition also feels reminiscent of the richly detailed still lifes of Frida Kahlo, reimagined here with a bold, contemporary and slightly surreal edge.
Executed with visible brushwork and thoughtful detail, the painting incorporates saturated tones, intricate patterning, and layered texture throughout. The round format enhances its presence, giving it a sculptural quality on the wall and making it an ideal focal point for a dining area, kitchen, or creative interior.
I especially love how this piece balances playfulness with sophistication—it has a strong point of view while still feeling highly livable. It’s the kind of work that instantly gives a space personality and depth, and each time you look at it, something new reveals itself. I also appreciate how the painting extends around the edges, enhancing its presence and giving it a more immersive, finished feel on the wall.
Gaikwad, originally from Goa, India, holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Central University of Hyderabad and is currently based in Doha, Qatar. Her work blends elements of figurative art, modernism, and pop influence, often centered around themes of lush foliage and introspection. Notably, two of her works were selected for inclusion in the NASA Lunar Codex (Polaris time capsule), further highlighting her growing recognition.
Signed and dated by the artist in the lower right. Wired and ready to hang.
