This is an exquisite Victorian writing desk that adds historical character to the home office or living room décor. Circa 1890s.
An exquisite example of an original Maple and Co writing desk, with the original '4975' carving to the back.
The desk has a large rectangular writing tabletop, with a carved lower boarder.
The desk front. drawers, desk top and sides all display a wonderful inlaid design, a touch of period charm.
The desk front has a large central drawer, with four pedestal graduating drawers to either side of the desk. All of the drawers have gorgeous crossbanding.
These drawers provide excellent storage for utensils, documents and books.
The drawer are all finished with gorgeous mahogany button handles. The lower right drawer handle has been replaced (see photograph).
The desk has a carved boarder that runs around the front and sides.
The desk has a central knee hole for a chair to comfortably sit under.
Standing proudly on eight gorgeous tapering square legs, finished with metal brass rolling castors.
This writing desk is constructed with a rich mahogany patination that enriches the home setting.
Overall, this Victorian writing desk is in great antique condition, with signs of general use and veneer wear to the desk, as to be expected from an item with years of use (see photographs).
There are historical signs of veneer damage to the left drawers boarders, and the desk boarders (see photographs).
There are holes to the back of the desk where a desk mirror may have been (see photograph).
