Sometimes referred to as "yangcai" or "foreign colors," the famille rose style emerged during the 18th century and employs a pastel palette of opaque enamels that favors roses and pinks.

This cylindrical tea leaf jar from the early 20th century is brushed on all sides with a bountiful harvest of gourds or melons, symbols of abundance, prosperity, and many descendants. Growing off a vine dotted with leaves and tendrils, the gourds are surrounded by large butterflies, symbols of joy and happiness. A celebration of autumn, this colorful jar brightens up any surface and is the perfect size for storing odds and ends. Stamped with the reign mark of the Tongzhi Emperor (1862-1874).
