Fresh from a fine New York City estate, we have a great pleasure to offer you this gorgeous Antique French … Read more Fresh from a fine New York City estate, we have a great pleasure to offer you this gorgeous Antique French Late 19th / Early 20th Century Vernis Martin Style Painted Cylinder / Roll Top Bonheur Du Jour / Lady Secretary Desk. Great French quality, with fine straight Louis XVI style lines, made of Mahogany and dressed down in striking gilt bronze mounts. Top features an open front pierced bronze gallery, framing in display surface. Below is a large door flanked with a pair of open display spaces with mirrors behind them and a fine neoclassical column supporting the corner. There are four smaller drawers on sides and a wide one below the door. Bottom desk section has a large curved cylinder lid / door with gorgeous Vernis Martin painted scene, that matches the oval one on the top door. When pulled open, it reveals another three drawers above the leather lined writing surface (that slides out). The interior is finished same way as is the piece. Secretary is standing on four long tall downward tapering Louis XVI straight legs. Superb quality bronze mounts! Condition is good overall, shows age / use wear, was refinished recently (please see photos). Size is great to fit in any room, house or apartment, at 59.75" tall to top gallery, 31" wide, 19" deep, desk writing surface is 28.5" height, and the knee clearance is 23.5" in height. Great piece for use, and a spectacular quality piece that will take your breath away every time you see it! See less
