This Art Deco ceramic centerpiece bowl by Thomas Forester & Sons, produced in Staffordshire, England in 1932, is a striking example of British Art Deco design, decorated in the Sunglo pattern from the Phoenix Ware range. The piece combines bold floral decoration with strong geometric styling, characteristic of early 20th-century ceramic art. The bowl is conical in form, raised on three splayed legs that create a sculptural, architectural base. This elevated pedestal form reinforces its function as a centerpiece bowl while giving the piece a distinct modernist presence. The composition balances structure and decoration, typical of Art Deco ceramics. The surface is finished in coloured glazes, featuring buttermilk yellow ground tones with vibrant yellow buttercup flowers, turquoise and green curved motifs, and oxblood detailing to the foliage. The Sunglo pattern is defined by its stylised floral elements and graphic arrangement, combining natural forms with abstracted, rhythmic lines. The underside bears the Thomas Forester & Sons Phoenix Ware mark along with the Sunglo pattern name, confirming its origin and date. Condition is overall good for age and use. There is visible crazing to the glaze and wear to the enamel decoration, particularly to the oxblood foliage where some loss is present. The bowl remains structurally sound. Height: 9.5 cm (3.74 in) Diameter: 28.5 cm (11.22 in) This Art Deco ceramic centerpiece bowl is well suited to collectors of British Art Deco, Staffordshire ceramics, Phoenix Ware, and Thomas Forester pottery, as well as those seeking a colourful Art Deco bowl with strong decorative impact.
