Known primarily for their floral and transfer-printed wares, this piece marks a distinct departure into more modernist territory — a rare and collectible form from a period of experimentation within the maling pottery archive. The vase is shaped as an elongated, subtly undulating cylinder with a stepped pedestal base, lending the form a sense of lightness and elevation. The body is glazed in graduated pink to smoky moleskin grey, the tonal shift applied in a sprayed, almost airbrushed effect that blurs the line between decorative glaze and sculptural contour. A high-shine lustre glaze overlays the surface, catching light and enhancing the soft curvature of the form — a technique maling used sparingly during this time. Measuring 28 cm in height with a diameter of 10 cm, the vase is marked to the base with the maling factory stamp and impressed shape number. In good vintage condition, with light wear to the glaze consistent with age and handling. A compelling example of british art deco ceramics. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
