Rare rocking chair in beechwood, originally lacquered in orange-red.
sturdy paper cord seat.
designed by hans wegner for fdb møbler, denmark, 1962.
this color was produced in a limited edition in the early 1960s.
width 63 cm x total depth 80 cm x total height 106.5 cm
logo and production date engraved under the armrest (fdb – 3.11.62)
in very good condition with some discreet signs of wear on the wood and seat.
the j16 rocking chair was one of the first pieces of furniture created in 1944 by hans j. Wegner, one of the most influential designers of the danish modernist era.
inspired by windsor and shaker styles, the contrast between the paper rope seat and the flowing, graceful lines of the lacquered beech frame is remarkable and evokes vernacular design and simple, intimate moments. This piece has an attribution mark,
