This Murano glass vanity mirror by Barovier and Toso, produced in Italy circa 1940s, reflects the sculptural qualities of Venetian glassmaking in a functional object. The frame is executed in clear Murano glass, worked into a series of pronounced, undulating ridges in the torchon technique, giving the surface a layered and tactile quality.
The mirror is shaped with soft, flowing curves, forming a shield-like silhouette that is both decorative and balanced. A brass inner frame outlines the glass and introduces a subtle tonal contrast, while maintaining cohesion with the overall design.
Intended as a tabletop mirror, it is supported by a brass easel stand to the reverse. The back panel is finished in a polished, red-toned wood, providing a considered and complete appearance from all angles.
The condition is very good, consistent with age and use. The brass elements show some oxidation and patination. The glass is in very good condition with no chips or damage, and the wooden back plate remains well preserved.
